Frederick Community Action Agency announces summer food program

Frederick Community Action Agency (FCAA) will provide free lunches for children who qualify for free or reduced-price meals through the summer.

The Summer Food Service Program began this week and will last until Aug. 30, according to a press release from the FCAA. Youths up to 18 years old can receive a free lunch through the program.

The FCAA will operate the program at 13 sites across the county. The nonprofit is projected to serve about 15,000 meals over the summer.

The program is administrated through the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Maryland Department of Education. USDA partially funds the program.

The FCAA is accepting donations to help operate the program. Donations, made payable to Friends for Neighborhood Progress Inc., can be mailed to 100 S. Market St., Frederick, MD 21701.

Free lunches will be offered Monday through Friday, except July 4:

Hill Street Park pavilion on Hill Street in Frederick, from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
Stonegate Park pavilion on Andover Lane in Frederick, from noon to 12:45 p.m.
College Estates Park on Taney Avenue in Frederick, from 12:15 to 1 p.m.
PAL Center on Sagner Avenue in Frederick, from noon to 12:30 p.m.
Carrollton Park on Center Street in Frederick, from noon to 12:45 p.m.
Windsor Gardens Apartments on Key Parkway in Frederick, from noon to 12:30 p.m.
Overlook Park on Coralberry Court in Frederick, from noon to 12:30 p.m.
Monocacy Village Park on Delaware Road in Frederick, from noon to 12:30 p.m.
